Where it comes from
The gummy bear was invented in Germany in the 1920s by a confectioner experimenting with gelatin-based candies shaped like dancing bears. It reached North American shelves decades later and became one of the best-known gummy candy shapes, spawning worms, rings, and other gelatin-based candy shapes that followed its lead.
Buying it

Storing it
Once opened, clip the bag shut fast; exposed to air, gummy candy turns hard within days. An unopened bag has a long, easy shelf life without any special handling.
