How Listahan checks for allergens

Rules, not guesses

Every recipe is tagged by running each ingredient through a fixed set of allergen rules — the same check, every recipe, every time. No AI model makes the call.

All nine major allergens

Listahan tracks all nine allergens recognized in North America: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish, and sesame.

Multiple restrictions at once

In the app, set your full household profile once. Every meal plan and lunchbox is filtered against all your restrictions simultaneously — no manual checking required.

Set your household's allergen profile once in the Listahan app, and every recipe, meal plan, and lunchbox is automatically checked against it.

Frequently asked questions

How does Listahan check for allergens?
Every recipe is tagged using fixed rules applied to its ingredient list — not AI guesses. When you filter by dairy-free, gluten-free, or any other allergen, only recipes with zero of those ingredients in their ingredient list are shown. The check is run the same way every time, for every recipe.
Can I filter for multiple allergens at once?
Yes. In the Listahan app, you set your household's allergen profile once — milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish, sesame, or any combination. Every recipe, meal plan, and lunchbox is then checked against all of your restrictions simultaneously, with no manual filtering needed.
Are these recipes safe for severe allergies?
The recipes shown are free of the stated allergen in their base ingredient lists. However, manufactured products vary by brand and facility — cross-contamination risks depend on the specific products you buy. Always read the label on every ingredient. Listahan is not a medical service, and allergen tags are not a substitute for checking labels yourself.
What's the difference between allergen-free and allergen-friendly?
On Listahan, allergen-free means the allergen does not appear anywhere in the recipe's ingredient list. Allergen-friendly is a looser term sometimes used elsewhere to mean a swap is possible. All recipes in these hubs are strictly allergen-free — the ingredient is absent, not just swappable.
How many allergens does Listahan track?
Listahan tracks the nine major allergens recognized in North America: milk (dairy), eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat (gluten), soy, fish, shellfish, and sesame. Each allergen hub on this page corresponds to one or more of these categories.
What if I need recipes free of an allergen not listed here?
The app's search lets you combine allergen filters beyond the eight hub pages shown here. Download the free Listahan app to build your exact household profile and filter the full catalog.

Listahan is the household operating system: lists, calendar, events, reminders and chores live beside the food.
