Instructions
- 1
Preheat a non-stick or cast-iron skillet over medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes.
- 2
Spread the softened butter generously and evenly over one side of each slice of bread, ensuring edge-to-edge coverage for an even crust.
- 3
Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in the warm skillet. Immediately layer the 2 slices of cheddar and 2 slices of American cheese on top.
- 4
Top with the second slice of bread, butter-side up. Cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes until the bottom bread turns a deep, crispy golden-brown.
- 5
Carefully flip the sandwich using a wide spatula. Cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side, pressing down lightly, until the second side is equally golden and the cheese is completely melted and bubbling at the edges.
- 6
Remove from the skillet, let rest for 1 minute so the cheese sets slightly, then slice diagonally and serve warm.
