Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat the oven's broiler. Split the sub roll horizontally, being careful not to cut all the way through the hinge. Place the roll open-faced on a baking sheet and lightly toast it under the broiler for 1 minute.

  2. 2

In a medium saucepan, combine the meatballs and marinara sauce. Heat over medium-low, partially covered, for 10-15 minutes until the meatballs are thoroughly heated and the sauce is simmering.

  3. 3

Carefully place the hot meatballs inside the toasted sub roll. Spoon extra marinara sauce generously over the top of the meatballs.

  4. 4

Layer the fresh mozzarella cheese slices evenly over the meatballs, covering them from end to end. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan.

  5. 5

Place the sub back under the broiler for 2-3 minutes, watching closely, until the mozzarella is beautifully melted, bubbly, and slightly browned in spots.

  6. 6

Garnish with a few torn fresh basil leaves, close the sandwich gently, and serve hot with plenty of napkins.
