In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sherry, cider vinegar, and sugar.

Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves, and continue to simmer until the sauce reduces to about 1/2 cup, about 8 to 10 minutes.
