In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and smooth.

Gradually stir in the flour until a soft dough forms.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 3 minutes.

Pat the dough to about 1/3-inch thickness and cut into 1x3-inch strips (or your preferred shape), placing them about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Prick each piece several times with a fork.
