Instructions

  1. 1

Using a long serrated knife, slice the round bread entirely in half horizontally. Remove a small amount of the soft interior crumb from both halves to create a "bowl" for the fillings.

  2. 2

Spoon the olive salad (including its seasoned oils) generously over both the top and bottom interior halves of the bread, spreading it evenly to the edges.

  3. 3

On the bottom half, begin layering the ingredients to create distinct stripes: lay down half the provolone, then the salami, then the mortadella.

  4. 4

Continue layering with the ham, and finally the rest of the provolone cheese.

  5. 5

Carefully place the top half of the bread over the meats. Press down very firmly with your hands to compress the sandwich and force the olive oil into the bread.

  6. 6

For the absolute best flavor, wrap the entire sandwich tightly in plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours) before cutting into wedges to serve.
