Butter Dips

Buttery, golden quick-bread strips baked in a pool of melted butter for crisp edges and a tender crumb.

    Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Place the butter in a 13x9-inch baking pan and set it in the oven for 3-4 minutes until fully melted, then remove the pan and set aside.

    In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Pour in the milk and stir slowly with a fork until the dough just clings together.

    Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently about 10 times. Roll or pat it into a 12x8-inch rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.

    Cut the dough in half lengthwise, then crosswise into 16 equal strips. Dip each strip on both sides in the melted butter in the pan and arrange them close together in two rows.

    Bake for 15-20 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Serve piping hot.
