Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, ground ginger, and nutmeg.

In a large mixing bowl, cream the vegetable shortening and brown sugar together until smooth and fluffy. Beat in the molasses and brandy.

Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture until a soft dough forms.

Drop the dough by spoonfuls about 2 1/2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 5 to 6 minutes, until golden brown around the edges.
