In a bowl, toss the shrimp with buttermilk and hot sauce. Let them marinate for 10 minutes.

In a separate shallow dish, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, and Cajun seasoning.

Remove shrimp from the buttermilk mixture, letting excess drip off, and dredge thoroughly in the cornmeal mixture.

Fry the shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.

Slice the French bread open, spread remoulade heavily on both sides, layer with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and pile high with the hot fried shrimp.
