Instructions

    Combine the mauby bark, cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, and orange peel in a pot with 4 cups of water and bring to a boil.

    Reduce the heat and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes until the liquid turns dark and deeply aromatic, then remove from the heat and let it steep for 10 minutes.

    Strain the concentrate through a fine sieve into a pitcher, pressing the bark to extract maximum flavor.

    Stir the sugar into the warm concentrate until fully dissolved, then add the remaining 4 cups of cold water to dilute.
