Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Generously grease a 9-inch cast-iron skillet or a square baking pan with a little butter or cooking spray.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until evenly blended.

In a separate smaller bowl, whisk the whole milk, eggs, and melted butter until well combined.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to stir gently just until the dry ingredients are moistened. Do not overmix; the batter should be slightly lumpy.

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared skillet or pan, smoothing the top lightly.

Bake for 20-25 minutes. It is done when the top is a deep golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing into wedges.
