Instructions

  1. 1

Heat a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add the lean ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon as it browns.

  2. 2

Halfway through browning (about 3 minutes in), add the finely diced onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Continue to cook until the beef is fully browned and no pink remains, and the vegetables are softened.

  3. 3

Carefully drain off any excess rendered fat from the skillet.

  4. 4

Reduce the heat to low and pour in the Sloppy Joe sauce. Stir thoroughly so the meat and vegetables are completely enveloped in the sauce.

  5. 5

Let the mixture simmer gently for 5-7 minutes. This allows the sauce to thicken and the flavors to meld perfectly.

  6. 6

While the meat simmers, lightly toast the hamburger buns. Spoon a very generous, overflowing portion of the meaty mixture onto the bottom buns, cap with the tops, and serve with plenty of napkins.
