Place the butter in a microwave-safe bowl and heat on high for about 30 seconds, until melted.

Stir in the heavy cream and warm on high for about 1 minute, until hot.

Add the grated Parmesan cheese and warm in short bursts, stirring, until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth.

Season with the salt and black pepper to taste; if serving with shrimp or other salty additions, use less salt.

Pour the sauce over about 4 servings of warm noodles (angel hair works well) and toss to coat. Serve immediately.
