Black Bean Burgers

Easy vegetarian burger patties made from canned beans.

Instructions

    Drain and rinse the black beans, then place them in a large mixing bowl. Pat them dry with a paper towel.

    Use a potato masher or a fork to mash the beans until they are mostly broken down but still retain some texture (do not make a smooth paste).

    Stir in the breadcrumbs, egg, cumin, garlic powder, and salt until the mixture binds together.

    Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into tightly packed, 1/2-inch thick patties.

    Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet over medium heat until it shimmers.

    Carefully place the patties in the skillet and pan-fry for 4-5 minutes per side until deeply browned and crispy. Serve warm on buns.
